Welcome to Heidi in Houston
As I sit down to write this blog, I’m filled with a sense of purpose and nostalgia. Ever since I was a young girl, I’ve been a collector of memories, a habit I inherited from my mother. She was always there with her camera, capturing every Kodak moment, from the days of reel-to-reel to the latest digital devices. This passion for preserving our family’s history has been passed down through generations, and now I find myself the custodian of a treasure trove of memories.
I’ve become the keeper of not just my own experiences, but also those of my grandmothers, safeguarding their letters, postcards, and countless mementos. There’s an immense responsibility in being the gatekeeper of such rich history, and I feel compelled to do more than just store these precious artifacts.
Recently, a personal experience with losing access to my Facebook account made me realize the vulnerability of relying on third-party platforms to store our memories. This setback, combined with our recent trip to Europe and visiting my father’s birthplace, has ignited a fire within me to create this blog. It’s not just a hobby; it’s a calling.
My goal is simple yet profound: to organize, document, and share our family’s history for current and future generations. I want my children, their children, and those who come after to have a window into our family’s past, to understand where they come from, and to feel connected to their roots.
While my posts may not always be chronological, each one will be a piece of our family’s puzzle. I also hope to share tips and information on organizing photos, videos, and memorabilia, as I know many others face similar challenges in preserving their family histories.
This blog is my way of ensuring that our family’s stories, experiences, and memories don’t get overlooked or discarded. It’s a labor of love, driven by the knowledge that someday, someone will be searching for the very information I can easily share today.
Thank you for joining me on this journey of preservation and discovery.
