Hoops, History & High Plains: A Summer Stop in Denver

This summer’s travels kicked off in Denver, where Johann and I traveled for the Strake Jesuit Basketball team’s participation in the Colorado Live event. The week was packed with competitive games, team bonding, and a wonderful chance to reconnect with our extended basketball family.

While the players focused on the game, we parents made time to explore a few of Denver’s hidden local spots.

We were able to fit in a quick tour through the Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge, a former U.S. military ammunition site that has been transformed into a protected habitat. One of the highlights was spotting several bison, the largest land mammal in North America. These particular bison are part of a herd descended from the last wild populations. We also saw energetic prairie dog colonies and took in the wide, golden landscapes with the Rocky Mountains in the distance.

It was an exciting, high-energy few days, full of team spirit and outdoor exploration with our extended basketball family.

Once the tournament wrapped up, Johann and I caught our flight to join Eddie and Katerina in beautiful Barcelona.

Next stop: Barcelona!
